Agree on the lobby rules before sending the link
State the format, timer, movement rules, communication rules and whether notes, search, AI or browser extensions are allowed. A private lobby can use custom rules, but silence is not consent. If the round contributes to a leaderboard, tournament or public competitive result, do not use third-party assistance.
- Mode and number of rounds.
- Moving, no-moving or restricted movement.
- Whether teammates can speak and when guesses lock.
- Whether external notes, search, AI or extensions are allowed.
Use a three-part team callout
Keep each callout short: country group, strongest clue, confidence. For example: ‘Baltics, concrete poles, medium confidence.’ This tells teammates what you think, why you think it and how much weight to give the claim.
Avoid narrating every object on screen. A long monologue hides the decision. If a new clue changes the country group, state the update and the reason instead of repeating the whole round.
Use a decision ladder under time pressure
At high time, search for a confirming clue. At medium time, choose between the two strongest countries. At low time, place centrally inside the best-supported country or region. The purpose of the ladder is to prevent a technically good read from turning into a zero because nobody committed.
- High time: gather one clue that could falsify the current country group.
- Medium time: compare the strongest two candidates.
- Low time: make the safest supported placement and stop exploring.
Separate competitive rounds from assisted party rounds
GeoBoost is intended for supported private, practice and testing contexts. In an assisted party round, everyone should know the extension is part of the format. One workable format is manual-first: each player calls a guess, then the host uses the helper as a reveal or placement check.
This preserves the social decision and makes the tool the agreed feedback mechanism rather than a hidden advantage. It is not appropriate for official competitive or leaderboard play where GeoGuessr rules prohibit third-party advantages.
Review the communication failure, not only the map miss
After the game, ask whether the team missed the clue, failed to communicate it or failed to commit before the timer. Those are different problems. Fixing the callout format can improve multiplayer results even when nobody learns a new country fact.
Testing context and limitations
